Friends of the Mystic to Charles Receives Massbike/WatsonActive Grant for Translation Services7/10/2020 Friends of the Mystic to Charles (FM2C) is honored to have been awarded a grant to support the inclusion of non-English speaking residents in the planning and design process of active transportation infrastructure in East Somerville and Charlestown, Massachusetts. The grant, awarded by Massbike and WatsonActive, will provide funding to support the translation of their recently completed feasibility study into Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and Haitian Creole by the end of 2020. The grant program's overall goal is to build local capacity to improve bicycling and equity in the context of active transportation and recreation, particularly to help overcome sociophysical challenges enhanced by the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to connecting the Charles and Mystic River path networks, aiding local resident access to open space, the proposed path will connect three MBTA subway lines (Orange, Green and Red) and assist in addressing environmental justice along the Northeast Expressway (I-93) corridor. FM2C look forward to using the grant as a catalyst for community engagement outside of traditional avenues for active transportation advocacy, spurring new voices in the project's co-generation and guidance.
