The Friends of the Mystic to Charles Connector (FM2C), in collaboration with the Friends of the Community Path, are pleased to officially release a joint study highlighting feasibility for multi-use path connectivity in East Somerville and East Cambridge, Massachusetts.
The joint study, conducted by Alta Planning & Design, explores options for connecting the Grand Junction Path and Mystic River Greenways to the Community Path Extension. If completed, the connections would create a four-way "super-junction", connecting dozens of miles of non-motorized paths for users of all ages and abilities in one of the United States' most densely populated communities. The study incorporates public comment from over 650 community members, aiding FM2C's goal of energizing residents in the co-creation of public space and better incorporating new voices in the development process. With the study now completed, FM2C plans to shift its focus to generating public and institutional support for the project. FM2C would like to provide a special thanks to the Masstrails grant program for funding the study, as well as the Mystic River Watershed Association and Somerville Community Corporation for their support and fiscal administration. About FM2C The mission of the Friends of the Mystic to Charles Connector is to support the community-led development of a multi-use path along an abandoned rail right-of-way between Assembly Square and Inner Belt in East Somerville, Massachusetts. When completed, the Mystic to Charles Connector will link the Mystic and Charles River path networks, supporting the vision of a fully connected regional path network in Greater Boston.
